74LS126 Quad buffer, three-state, active-high enable
The 74LS126 holds four non-inverting buffers with three-state outputs. It is the 74LS125 with the enables turned around: each output follows its input while its enable G is high, and disconnects while G is low.

74LS126 function table
| G | A | Y |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0 | 0 |
| 1 | 1 | 1 |
| 0 | X | Z |
Z is high impedance: the output is disconnected.
What the 74LS126 is used for
- Putting several sources on one bus, one enabled at a time
- Pairing with a 74LS125 so one signal enables one source and disables another
Electrical summary
| Package | 14-pin DIP |
| Supply voltage | 5 V (4.75 V to 5.25 V) |
| Output type | Three-state — drives high and low, or disconnects when disabled |
| Output current, low | sinks up to 24 mA |
| Output current, high | sources up to 2.6 mA |
| Input current, low | 0.4 mA out of each input held low |
| Fan-out | one output can drive about 60 LS inputs |
Typical figures for quick reference when planning a board. Check the manufacturer's datasheet for limits and timing before committing a design. The 74HC126 and 74HCT126 use the same pin numbers, with different electrical values.
The 74LS126 and the Breadboard Simulator
The 74LS126 is not in the Breadboard Simulator's parts library yet — this page is a reference. The simulator seats the gates, decoders, multiplexers, adders and buffers marked on the chips page, so the logic around a 74LS126 can be planned and wired there.
