74LS30 8-input NAND gate

The 74LS30 is a single 8-input NAND gate. Its output is low only when all eight inputs are high. Pins 9, 10 and 13 are not connected.

74LS30 truth table

With 8 inputs the full table has 256 rows. In short: the output is 0 only when every input is 1, and 1 otherwise.

What the 74LS30 is used for

  • Combining up to eight minterms from a 74LS138 decoder into one function
  • Detecting that every bit of a byte is 1

Try the 74LS30 on a breadboard

The Breadboard Simulator has the 74LS30 in its parts library: seat it on a virtual breadboard, wire it, power the board and probe the pins before you build the real thing.
